A NICU I nurse possesses the same qualities as a regular NICU nurse except has the capabilities of providing care within Level I Trauma Centers.
Elements of Level I Trauma Centers Include (but are not limited to):
24-hour in-house coverage by general surgeons, and prompt availability of care in orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, internal medicine, plastic surgery, oral and maxillofacial, pediatric, and critical care.
Providing leadership in prevention, public education to surrounding communities.
Continuing education of the trauma team members.
Incorporating a comprehensive quality assessment program.
Operating an organized teaching and research effort to help direct new innovations in trauma care.
Facilitating programs for substance abuse screening and patient intervention.
Meeting minimum requirement for annual volume of severely injured patients.
