The Mother Baby Nurse, also known as Postpartum (PP) Nurse, takes care of new moms and their babies after birth.
Their primary duties involve assessments of new moms to make sure they’re recovering well and to monitor babies to make sure they’re healthy.
PP RNs may administer medication and antibiotics as needed, especially for women who may have given birth via C-section.
They will also give new parents some instructions on how to take care of their new baby. PP nurses should be patient and understanding, as they attend to both the physical and emotional health of a new mom.
