A specialty in cardiology nursing—an electrophysiology (EP) nurse assists and educates patients undergoing EP study of the heart (a nonsurgical procedure to obtain information about the heart’s electrical activity.)
Work with patients with pacemakers and defibs.
It’s a highly technical area. EP RNs may conduct stress tests. They order and maintain cardiac equipment, and may assist with pacemaker insertions as well as EP studies.
Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications are required.
